Bowl Game Review
Amid the revelry of New Orleans’ Bourbon Street, the '86 Sugar Bowl had it all. Miami, with one of the most dominate offenses in college football was shooting for yet another national championship. The Volunteers, a much underrated team, who rolled into New Orleans with a hard fought Southeastern Conference title, were looking for the national respect they felt had eluded them. Tennessee's defense would dominate Miami by intercepting Testaverde three times and holding Miami's Michael Irvin to one touchdown. The Volunteer's upset the Hurricanes 35-7, keeping Miami from their second National Championship. That night in the Sugar Bowl Miami featured young talent like Freshman Wide Receiver Mike Irvin, future Heisman winner Vinny Testaverde, and Defensive End Kevin Fagan. Even though this Hurricane team was young and inexperienced they knew the days ahead would be brighter.
